Del Gesu Violin Copy

Del Gesu violins are very distinct in their corner shapes and elongated open c’s and I find them rather beautiful. The ‘f’ holes are also distinct with their italic font and with large floating wings at the top and bottom. This model is not of any one specific violin he made but a mix of what to me were the nicer parts of several.

This beautiful example has a two piece back with a medium curl to match the ribs and neck. The scroll is the first example of my design with flowing turns and finished crisply. The front is a medium/fine grained piece of spruce and all the wood is approximately 7 years old and finished in an oil varnish coloured with my home made pigments to create this deep warm dark orange/brown in the contemporary style. The pegs, tail piece and chin rest are all cut from rose wood to compliment the varnish.

Back Length 352mm

Upper bout 166mm

Middle bout 114mm

Lower bout 205mm
