Here is my latest viola and it is created in the style of the Brothers Amati. I have created this instrument using a copy of the original design dated 1620. However, originally it was larger in its proportions and I have decreased the overall length to 15 3/4″.

Decreasing the length has certainly not had any effect on its tonal qualities and I have found that it has worked out really well. It still projects a large sound but allows the slightly smaller musician to play with additional comfort.

The instrument has been played in by several local teachers from the university and RAM and sounds brilliant. If you are a smaller professional looking for a powerful small instrument that resonates and is full of colour then please contact me for a trial.
